FC Sochaux-Montebéliard defender Jérémie Bréchet has chosen to play for PSV Eindhoven next season when his contract has expires with his current employers at the end of June...
The well-traveled defender has had an understated but fairly successful career to date. Bréchet is a Lyon native and played for his home town club for the first 5 years of his career, featuring over 100 times for Les Gones.
Having won the French championship on 2 occasions Bréchet received international recognition, playing once for the French side that won the Confederations Cup in 2001. Two further caps would be won 2 years later but no further recognition from les Bleus has been granted.
A one year spell with Inter Milan proved unsuccessful while the 2 following seasons in Spain with Real Sociedad were little more fruitful for the now 27 year-old.
Bréchet joins PSV after a successful 2 season stint with Sochaux. With les Lionceaux Bréchet claimed the Coupe de France in his first season and was an integral part of the side that rocketed up the league table in the latter part of last season. Having missed the first half of the term due to injury Sochaux's recovery coincided with Bréchet's return to fitness.
Whole-hearted and committed PSV have acquired a player with Champions League experience but one who has not necessarily fulfilled his potential. With the Dutch champions Bréchet will again be given the opportunity to mingle with Europe's best next season.
PSV beat off competition from Osasuna of Spain and Ligue 1 new-boys Nantes for Bréchet's signature.
